In Austin, everyone knows "The Weirder, The Better"
At Vinca, we get inspiration from something seen in a dream, misheard from eavesdropping, or just because it happens to be our favorite (hello, tacos). Back in 2006, while toying with the idea of starting a company, Amanda decided to make something out of the thousands of pounds of small scraps from her family's leather goods factory. There happened to be a large amount of flower shapes left over from a custom job so she used those as the main accent on the first collection. The flowers quickly faded from the catalog to make way for weirder creatures like hammerhead sharks and squirrels, but the flower name "Vinca" stuck. (Don't ask us to make this bracelet again though! We've literally blossomed and moved on to bigger and better things)
Since the humble beginning, the brand is now sold worldwide, loved by customers who appreciate quirkiness from Austin to Korea. From making every single piece herself, the workshop now has several employees who work together as a team to produce thousands of pieces a month.
All of our wooden and acrylic parts are drawn, cut, and assembled in house. We like to call it "micro-manufacturing" and are very happy to be able to produce domestically with full control over the whole process. The vast majority of our raw materials, including chain, plastic, and wood, are also sourced in the U.S. from our sterling chain to our specialty acrylic.
Amanda is our designer. Most frequently asked question? If she went to art school. She's been drawing, sewing, gluing, and building all her life and went for business instead at The University of Texas. She draws most of the artwork!
Lucy is our shipping manager. She makes sure everything gets shipped out on time!
Her favorite things are rugby, tropical plants, swimming, and her three cute kiddos.
Kristin is our communications director. She handles all Vinca social media and graphics.
When she's not hunched over at her desk she can be found watching old-school monster movies, playing her guitar or running like hell through the hillside avoiding brown recluse spiders. She creates most of the graphics!
Jenny is our production manager. Her fingerprints are all over those earrings you're wearing. She likes dancing of course! Can't you tell?
