How Aubrey Plaza's 4" Chef's Knife Barrette Set the Internet Ablaze

This blog piece needs a little harsh backstory before we obnoxiously commend ourselves. The 4" Chef's Knife Barrette was part of a failed Kickstarter a few years prior. We had plenty of evidential proof that they were eye-catching. Every time, and I mean EVERY. TIME. I wore this thing; it was like I was the fifth Beatle. People hollered at me from across the street. A dude quickly walking past me uttered, “that’s pretty fuckin’ rad.” Multiple women have approached each of us at various times to buy the barrettes straight out of our hair. Despite in person reactions to the Chef’s Knife Barrette, this wasn’t enough to sustain production. It was a hard item to discontinue. We had hope that they would catch on. They COULD be a huge hit, but the timing just wasn't right. It was just like Destiny’s Child said, “I don’t think you’re ready for this machete.” (I know it’s a kitchen knife, but that doesn't rhyme.)

Flash-forward to late June of 2019— we started getting a slow trickle of orders for our 4" Chef's Knife Barrette. Again, this item was nearly discontinued and to be blunt, summers are viciously slow. It's vacation season after all. We were concentrating on wholesale prospects since we did not have a store front at the time. The fact that we suddenly had multiple orders for an item that we damn near discontinued was...odd. Let the internet sleuthing commence!

Unbeknownst to us, Aubrey Plaza wore our 4” Chef’s Knife Barrette on the red carpet of the Child’s Play (2019) premiere. Her hairstylist, Clayton Hawkins, purchased the barrette. He actually purchased multiple hairclips from other people too. Ours just happened to work out. Back when Twitter was Twitter, someone tweeted that could identify who made Aubrey’s hairclip. The media picked up the story and the rest is hairstory.
